Welcome to the Pirates PreCompetitive Program

The Parkland Pirates Pre-Competitive program is designed as the bridge between swim lessons and competitive swimming. It helps young swimmers develop strong technique, confidence, fitness, and team habits in a fun but structured environment.

At Parkland Pirates Aquatic Club, the Pre-Competitive group focuses bridging the gap between swim lesson and swim team by:

  • Building proper freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly technique
  • Teaching starts, turns, finishes, and underwater skills
  • Developing fitness and endurance gradually
  • Introducing practice structure and lane discipline
  • Preparing swimmers for future Foundation and Identity competitive groups
  • Helping swimmers gain confidence in the water while still keeping training enjoyable

The program is typically aimed at swimmers around 6 years old and up who are comfortable in deep water and ready for more than traditional swim lessons.

Why families join the program:

  • Small-team environment with more coaching feedback
  • A clear pathway into competitive swimming
  • Better stroke development than many recreation programs
  • Focus on long-term athlete development
  • Swimmers learn commitment, discipline, teamwork, and confidence
  • Practices are designed to be both challenging and age-appropriate

PreComp balances technique and training carefully. Younger swimmers spend more time learning how to swim correctly before heavy conditioning is introduced. That foundation becomes extremely important later if swimmers choose to compete seriously.

The Parkland Pirates philosophy emphasizes earning progress through effort, skill development, and consistency — helping athletes become better swimmers and better people through sport.

Pre-Comp Gear Requirements

Proper swim gear plays an important role in both performance and skill development during training. Equipment such as goggles, fins, kick boards, paddles, snorkels, pull buoys, and training suits helps swimmers improve technique, build strength, develop body position, and train more efficiently. The right gear also increases comfort and safety in the water, allowing athletes to stay focused and maximize the quality of each practice. Consistently using appropriate swim gear helps swimmers learn faster, train smarter, and build the habits needed for long-term success in the sport.
